Can You Read Thoughts? Can You Read Palms? Can You Predict The Future? Can You See Storms Coming??...

My hair has been a constant source of frustration for the last few weeks; it's too long to be restrained and too short for any real styling *sigh*. Also I can't help but get angry with waiting for it to grow- I know we all go through it but it's worse than watching paint dry when you don't even have a protective style to tuck it away in.... Misery, misery.

Anyway this is a quick progress check as people keep asking me where my hair's at right now...

Hair dry and combed out

Hair after shower, naturally drying with small application of John Frieda frizz ease...

Left side of head

Right side of head

Top of head

Back of head

So as you see my hair has grown but not half as much as people keep saying!! I think it's the sides that are really killing me- why must they grow so much slower than the top?!?!?!?

I don't do actual length checks cos I think they can be really discouraging and distract you from the overall goal, especially in these early stages, but pulled i'd say my longest strands of hair on the top of my head are almost 3/4 of an inch (at the time of writing- Tuesday 23rd July) and my hair has been growing for nearly 7 weeks.

My Essentials for the following weeks:

From top to bottom they are: Biotin, Cod liver oil and an empty body spray bottle i'm using to spritz my hair with water before I seal it with oil.
I'm rubbish at keeping up with taking supplements but a lot of people have recommended Biotin so i'll give it a go and Cod Liver Oil is something i've been wanting to start using for a long time anyway.
I will update you on how effective I think the supplements are!

If you have any suggestions or stories to share feel free to comment or drop me a e-mail.

Style Is Style. Fashion Is Fashion. Girl... You Got Style!!...

I think this is the first article typed thing i've ever written on this blog and i'm well aware that people tend to stop by here for the visuals buttttttt i'm in a writing mood and this has been bothering me for a while...

People often question me about my appearance (and I use the word 'appearance' here as an umbrella term for clothing, hair and make-up... not physical attractiveness) and why it's so important/interesting to me. So many assumptions, many of which are inaccurate,  are made based on it that I find myself torn between trying to answer these questions honestly and just brushing them off. I feel that misconceptions tend to come from a lack of understanding about physical appearance and what it has the ability to convey if you look past the deeply entrenched notion of superficiality being synonymous with it.

I will write in very broad terms, generalising slightly so as to make my distinctions clear...

Fashion is throw away, whim driven, forgettable. Fashion is a popularity contest between consumers, a pretty, fickle air-headed beast running a race against itself with no finish line. Nobody wins but everyone gets tired. Fashion is for those who follow and lack the ability to create. It is rhythmic and formulaic. It is a conceited dictatorship. Fashion tells us how to be right and how to be wrong, it favours very few and is exclusive in the most vulgar ways. It is a draining force with an insatiable appetite. Fashion is a self-plagiarist. It is ruthless, it never forgives. Fashion does not care for self-expression, only self-categorisation.

Style is your own. Style is the layers of your personality worn like a second skin baring your soul to those with the insight to see it. Style is your evolution through life, the mistakes you've made, the triumphs you've had, the knowledge you've accumulated. Style is the goal post which keeps moving down the field so as to push you to be better, think bigger, search wider. Style is your uniform, the character you create for yourself each day and therefore must live up to. It is what you have on and what you leave bare. Style is innovative and it chooses you but at the same time it is an organic creature, intractable in it's very nature. Style requires awareness and connection. It is deep thinking, open- minded and international. Style demands respect even if it raises eyebrows. It seeks the approval of no one except it's owner but is modestly grateful when others appreciate it. Style is humble even when it is loud because there is always room for advancement. Style does not conform to social boundaries because it is limitless and unafraid. It allows you to embrace all the pieces of yourself, even if they do not traditionally fit together. Style finds inspiration in different cultures, literature, film, light, darkness and anything else within the reach of it's imagination. Style is an artistic projection without being pretentious, it knows that black will forever be the new black. Style borrows but never steals. It can contradict itself without being a hypocrite. Style is hungry but never ravenous. It never feels inadequate because it is authentic. Style is forever daydreaming. Style knows that you are one of seven billion but also that you are one in seven billion.

So in keeping with this thinking, fashion is something that defines it's wearer whereas style is something defined by it's wearer. It is integral to the way I am. To trivialise my style by brushing it off as fashion/the fashion thing/trendiness/whatever is to trivialise my being, cover my mouth, disregard my intelligence and devalue my chosen lifestyle, passions and the ideals which shape my hopes for the future of what I wish to become. And yes, it is that important!

To many people I know that all this probably sounds a bit whimsical but all the advancements of my imagination are restrained from materialising right now (for financial reasons) and I have far outgrown the looks i'm stuck with wearing everyday. In general they do not represent me in an accurate light, like I am wearing somebody else. I have vision without choice or outlet. A creative block and a constant reminder of my own stunted self-esteem. As such I find 'fashion' and 'style' questions even more impossible to answer at the moment. yet I am asked everyday. Funny really.

Anyway, that's it with my thoughts for today, I could go on ranting forever about this because i'm genuinely fascinated by the whole thing... Perception is such a peculiar force!
The next time anyone asks me about this 'fashion stuff' whether out of some level of genuine interest or out of malice, i'll simply refer them to this article. Ha.

Life's Too Short To Even Care At All... I'm Losing My Mind, Losing My Mind, Losing Control...

One of my greatest character flaws is impatience. I'm not impatient in every sense, I don't get annoyed easily or anything like that but when it comes to things like: learning new skills, waiting for a delivery to arrive or buying something I feel I need I can be ridiculously impatient- Once my mind is made up- I want things when I want them and that doesn't always work to my advantage...

That is why I still haven't learnt how to use my camera.

My mind was set on being able to take better photos for my blog and in general, so when my friend offered to sell me his old camera at a reasonable price I emptied what was left in my bank account and bought it.... This was several months ago.

As hasty as i'd been with making the purchase, I was so impatient with learning how to use it that it's basically been sitting on my shelf collecting dust while I use my other (inferior) camera or borrow other people's for 99% of my photographs.

Well today I decided I was finally ready to take a deep breath and tackle it again. The quality difference between the Lumix i'm always using and the Pentax I should be using is like night and day. See for yourself...-

Even though i've obviously messed around with the colour etc, the first pic (and unfortunately the best one of the bunch) was taken with my Lumix...

All the rest were taken with the Pentax...

  • Top- Ebay
  • Leopard print bra- Next
  • Chain- Forever 21
  • Robe- from a friend
  • Docs- from a friend
  • Lipstick- in Trash by Illamasque

What a difference!!!
I've always wanted my blog to have big, clear, bright pictures on it, with better detail. More about my clothes, hair and make-up products and less about my stupid, unchanging face lol...

Maybe with a bit of intense practice I can finally put my impatience aside, stop wanting to throw my camera out the window every time a picture doesn't come out how I wanted it to and make the adjustments here that i've been wanting to make for so long...

I feel my patience increasing slightly just saying that lol

You Talk Way Too Much, You Talk Way Too Much, It's Only The End, It's Only The End As We Know It...

As i've acknowledged in the title, I 'talk' wayyyyyy too much in these posts sometimes so imma keep it short today....

This is how my room is getting on decorating wise....

Still some stuff to do but we're nearly finished...

Would be nice to have a little art hanging up but hey...

Patience is a virtue etc...

Money Is The Anthem Of Success So Before We Go Out, What's Your Address??...

So, no June posts at all... Very poor I know... In my defence I had a very busy month; Moved house TWICE (I live in Shoreditch now, yay) and started a new full-time job in Forever 21. Also i'm really hating 99% of my clothes atm and the few picture i've taken have been pretty crappy too...

Including this one, which i'm only posting so that this isn't just a straight rant about how unsatisfied I am right now...

  • Hat- Beyond Retro
  • Basketball shirt- Vintage & DIY
  • Shorts- Dirtyloves.com
  • Hold ups- Primark
  • Shoes- Jeffrey Campbell

I also went to Lovebox festival the other week which was great, i'll do a post on that when I have time. Did anyone else go??

Anyway, i'm going to try harder this month to get at least one post out every week.

That Mean I'm A High Roller, My Ex Wanna Work It Out- Bitch Try Yoga...

Y'know, my friends often tell me to get rid of this shirt- I've had it for years, it has a hole in it, frayed edges  and a few missing buttons, but I love it and don't think i'll ever throw it away... Even though it's usually in-house only these days and my friends use it as pyjamas when they stay over, I still occasionally find some new way to wear it...

  • Shirt- Vintage on Oldham St
  • Shorts- Brick Lane
  • Necklace- Canny remember

Do you have any comfort clothes you refuse to get rid of even though people encourage you to chuck them??

Give Me Your Dirty Love, Like You Might Surrender To Some Dragon In Your Dreams. Give Me Your Dirty Love, Like A Pink Donation To The Dragon In Your Dreams...

So me and my mate Lil went down to the launch of DIRTYloves.com at McQueen in Shoreditch last night... And although I knew that it's a rather sexy brand I wasn't expecting what was in store for us...

After descending the stairs into the dimly lit bar the first thing that caught my eye was a big table of flying saucers (the sweets with sherbet inside, not the kind people are always claiming to be spotting in Roswell)...

But as we got closer it was what was perched on top of the flying saucers that really grabbed our attention...

(this image = courtesy of DIRTYloves.com)

Yes, all sorts of naughty treats!!

We oohed and aahed and giggled a bit as we rummaged through the goodies on the tables before moving on to have a little browse through the clothing...

They had a nice range clothes and lingerie...

This was definitely my favourite tee (it says 'Hate' not 'Late' as it looks like with the fabric fold lol)

Want these!!

At £8 I couldn't resist... Actually bought these shorts on the website literally 5 minutes ago!! Ha...

After having a good ole rummage through the samples we spent the rest of the evening munching on tasty cupcakes and sweets and sipping delicious Scarlett Martinis (didn't really take pics though cos we were too busy munching lol).

Yum!!...

I've been thinking about it a bit since yesterday and the DIRTYloves approach just seems really modern... Naughty without being tacky, kitsch but not cliché. The whole idea of lifestyle brands that merge affordable fashion with events, sex toys, a magazine etc etc, is generally where the fashion industry appears to be headed...

If you're interested you can check out the DIRTYloves website here.

What d'you think of lifestyle brands? Are they the future??... Definitely seems that way in blog world!!...

New hairstyle reveal tomorrow ;)

Have a fabulous Friday!

To Market To Market To Buy A Plum Cake, Home Again Home Again Market Is Late...

I am absolutely beat right now!! Had a lovely day with my friends browsing Brick Lane's Sunday market.

Couldn't get too many shots cos a) I left my camera at home, b)My phone battery was low so I couldn't use that much either and c) quite a few stalls wouldn't allow pics to be taken as apparently a lot of idea theft goes on that way.

Whatever. As usual my desires far outweighed my financial means!! lol...

My personal favourite bit is usually the flea markets set up on the streets but that's obv better when the shitty London weather isn't acting up- These shoes were soaked!!

Hope your Sunday was as pleasant as mine!

And That's Good, Isn't It Grand, Isn't It Great, Isn't It Swell, Isn't It Fun, Isn't It... But Nothing Stays... In 50 Years Or So, It's Gonna Change Y'know, But Oh It's Heaven Nowadays...

Perhaps it's a bit cheeky of me to ask this on my blog when it's a question that I don't have time to accompany with a real blog post... But can someone please tell me how to use Instagram?!?!?!?!?!?!...

Call me slow, but i'm just not getting it. I downloaded it on my phone today (10 years later right, I know, shush), you probably already know i'm technophobic but this is just ridiculous.

Any tips welcome- how do you get into it? How do you connect with people? How do you discover decent Instagramers? What makes a good image? Why is there such a hype about it anyway?? I'm really confused!

Anyway, old lady rant over, back to work for me- serious essay deadline on Thursday.

You're Trying My Shoes On For A Change, They Look So Good But Fit So Strange...

So Jeffrey Campbell's... If you're an avid reader of fashion blogs and / or are a fashion blogger yourself  then you'll know that they're pretty much the basic shoe staple of the fashion blogging community... In fact you probably own at least one pair yourself.

While i've always admired them on other people i've never really felt the urge to own a pair... That is until now. I dunno why but all of a sudden the shoes i've shunned from my wardrobe for so long (mainly because of their popularity) have become the only shoes I ever seem to think about. Despite the fact that I can't afford them, probably wont be able to walk in them and they'll make me about 6'5''...

I want a pair of black Litas and I want them now!!

... Even though there are millions of styles to choose from, I think if you're only intending to get one pair it's best to invest in the classics and these just seem to go with everything.

What d'you think about Jeffrey Campbell shoes? Love or loathe 'em??

Hope everyone's taking it easy this weekend.

I Like A Woman With A Future And A Past, Little Attitude Problem All Good It'll Make The Shit Last...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
I'm gonna suffer through a whole pint of nasty-ass Guiness later to celebrate!

So a few days ago I mentioned there'd be more on the earrings from my disastrous studio shoot...

The earrings are from the Etsy shop 1MeNaturally and I was lucky enough to receive 4 pairs.
As many of you who have blogs will know, sometimes people offer to send you stuff and you're just not feelin' it cos the designs are kinda on the lame side or simply don't fit your personal style. But I really love these earrings, they're all very big and bold with really nice prints so if you're into your accessories, check it out.

I still haven't had my ears re-pierced so mine are all clip-ons.

Over time i'll feature all 4 pairs but today i'm starting with these gorgeous floral ones...

My beloved '90s Hammer pants...

Lots of hand-on-hip-closed-eyes action today, don't know what got into me, ha...

  • Cheeks- Nars blush in Taj Mahal
  • Lips- Illamasque lipstick in Blaze

What d'you think?? When my student loan drops i'm definitely gonna buy some more of these earrings- I'm always neglecting the accessories side of things. You can also have a browse of the facebook page here if you like.

In unrelated news, I was doing my weekly re-shave of the shaved bits of my hair earlier and accidentally snipped one of my braids off at the back. To make it even I had to shave a couple of my other back braids off too so i'm now working this weird undercut, ha!
