What Is REAL? What Is REAL Now? Am I Still? Am I Here Now? If I'm Still, Will I Feel Now??...

After braids questions the second most common thing people e-mail me about is my REAL hair, i'm not sure what's so interesting about it and i've posted pics with it before but i'm gonna quickly address the main questions in this post.

I took my braids out this week so that I could rest my hair and rebraid it. I pin it inwards for styling but you can get the general idea of what it's like from these pics Sam snapped the other day...

  • Shirt- H&M
  • Necklace- Forever 21
  • Jeans- Bershka
  • Shoes- Primark

  • As you can see my natural texture has grown out a fair bit but I still have relaxed bits haunting me for an inch or 2 at the ends.

  • I don't take a great deal of interest in hair type and categories etc but from what i've seen over the years on the internet and in magazines my hair is probably best described as a combination of  4a and 4b. It is combed out in the pics though so you can't see the curl pattern.

  • When straight the longest part of my hair is now over 6 inches long

  • In terms of protecting hair when sleeping I have pretty much the same routine as when my hair is in braids- P.M. night time oil and a satin cap, only difference is I also plait my hair before putting the cap on to minimise knotting and breakage during the night.

For those of you who have asked questions i've addressed I hope this is helpful, if anyone else has anything to ask about my reallllll hair just leave it as a comment or e-mail me and I will add it to this post just below!!

Additional Q's

  • Both sides of my head are shaved and about an inch of the back

If you're more interested in braids questions this post addresses all that! Off to work now. Boooooo.

Money Is The Anthem Of Success So Before We Go Out, What's Your Address??...

So, no June posts at all... Very poor I know... In my defence I had a very busy month; Moved house TWICE (I live in Shoreditch now, yay) and started a new full-time job in Forever 21. Also i'm really hating 99% of my clothes atm and the few picture i've taken have been pretty crappy too...

Including this one, which i'm only posting so that this isn't just a straight rant about how unsatisfied I am right now...

  • Hat- Beyond Retro
  • Basketball shirt- Vintage & DIY
  • Shorts- Dirtyloves.com
  • Hold ups- Primark
  • Shoes- Jeffrey Campbell

I also went to Lovebox festival the other week which was great, i'll do a post on that when I have time. Did anyone else go??

Anyway, i'm going to try harder this month to get at least one post out every week.

Oh Say Can You See My Stars, The Night Time Is Almost Ours...

So I finally went to the post office to collect my Dirtyloves shorts. Besides the obvious camel-toe potential i'm really happy with them. Looking forward to the weather being good enough to actually be able to wear them outside (did that sentence make sense? I'm really not sure)...

Assumed a bun like this wouldn't be possible with the length and weight of my hair, but I was wrong... all my hair fit in, no clips or bobbles necessary, it stayed secure for hours and it didn't strain my hair or weigh me down at all!!! Win...

  • Top- Still a mystery item!!
  • Shorts- DirtyLoves
  • Waistcoat- Brick Lane
  • Glasses- Primark
  • Ring- Forever 21

You Cry Out In Your Sleep, All My Failings Exposed, There's a Taste In My Mouth, As Desperation Takes Hold, Just That Something So Good, Just Can't Function No More...

...Love, love will tear us apart, again... One of my favourite songs for sure!!

Even though i've always found Creepers quite ugly shoes, I knew they'd be a great asset to my collection.
They go with just about everything!!
So finally I have some and wear them all the time so expect to be seeing a lot more of them in future posts...

  • Hat- Beyond Retro
  • Glasses- Claire's Accessories
  • Joy Division vest- a shop off Brick Lane I stupidly forgot to find out the name of
  • Hold-ups- Primark
  • Creepers- Ebay
  • Lips- Illamasque

There doesn't seem to be any middle ground when it comes to Creepers- people either seem to love them or hate them with a passion. Which camp are you in??

Turn Down The Lights, Turn Down The Bed, Turn Down These Voices Inside My Head...

What a day yesterday was!!!... I tried to do my first studio shoot at my friend's uni and well, it just didn't go to plan...

  1. Thanks to my running on Black Time, we arrived at the studios 40 minutes late. The technicians were less than impressed and had given our studio to some lanky group of guys so we ended up having to work in an inferior studio...
  2.  I insisted on having a black background cos you always see studio shots with white backgrounds and I wanted to do something different. Mistake- black hair, black hold-ups and black shoes don't exactly work well against a black background.
  3. We didn't have time to get the lighting right so my skin tone isn't right either (too light in these pics)...

In fact, there were so many problems i'm not even gonna continue rambling on with this list. I'm sure if you're bothering to read this you can sense my frustration. Basically in the end we had less than 30 minutes to actually shoot- against a background that was camouflaging half of my outfit...

I feel like if I had a daytime TV show, this would be the publicity shot, smh...

  • Lace top- Forever 21
  • Sheer skirt- Primarni & DIY
  • Floral shoes- Forever 21
  • Shorts- Cow & DIY
  • Hold ups- Primarni
  • Brogues- Primarni
  • Both sets of earrings- http://www.etsy.com/shop/1menaturally - MORE ON THESE FAB EARRINGS IN A LATER POST!!

  • Lips- Illamasque lipstick in Pristine

... So yeah, working the gormless/cheesy look like a pro. The only thing I like is how my lace top photographed. Can't say i'm a fan of the studio experience but i'll probably give it another go...

The moral of the story is, whatever your racial background, leave Black Time for church events and going to the gym.

Live Fast, Die Young, Bad Girls Do It Well...

Finally, after years of searching, I have a proper blue, blue lip pencil!!!!
Was messing around trying it on and ended up styling myself up like this... I've loved M.I.A. for years and have had the video for her new single Bad Girls on repeat since it came out- (if you haven't seen it it's at the bottom of the post- watch it!)- think that was my inspo today.

I'm liking the look so much I might actually redo this as a better shoot with my photography student friend in the studio next week, but for now you can have a look at these pics I snapped quickly in my bedroom...

  • Gold scarf- borrowed, friend's
  • Black headband- Primark
  • Floral crop top- Forever 21
  • Necklace- Forever 21

  • Cheeks- MAC mineralize blush in Gentle
  • Eyes- Maybelline gel eyeliner
  • Lips- Illamasque medium pencil in Debonair

Hooray for blue lips- may the Avatar comments on the streets of East London commence!!

No Bra With That Blouse It's So Necessary, No Panties And Jeans It's So Necessary, Now Why You Frontin' On Me Is That Necessary??...

'Ello, 'ello, 'ello!!!
Today i'm going to tell you a hairytale about my braids...

Once upon a time this week- I started trying to find new ways to style my braids... As much as I like them hanging down on their own, my appetite for change got me thinking about buns... Thought  a nice twisted bun would look good and I set about twisting, tying and frantically clipping... But alas no, it wasn't meant to be!!... My braids are just too long and thick. With each attempt I just looked a little more like I was growing a tumour on my head. So I changed tact, still in keeping with the updo theme and i'm quite happy with the results...

My day 1 attempt was a little sloppy (pic below)- I sorta just wanted all my hair to stay secure on the top of my head...

But day 2 I managed a nice structured twisted look, feels quite '80s, looks sorta like a hair hat, isn't heavy, takes about 3 minutes to do, doesn't pull and all it requires is a hairband and a few bobby pins to stay quite secure all day- long as you don't start dancin' to Whip My Hair!!...

And because this was a rather grumpy-faced tale, even for me...

  • Lace bodysuit- Ebay
  • Leather shorts- Topshop

  • Lace top- Forever 21
  • PVC skirt- Ebay
  • Levi's denim jacket- Found it upstairs
  • Tights- Primarni
  • Boots- Borrowed, Topshop
  • Hairband- Primarni
  • Earring- Borrowed, thrifted

  • Lips- Illamasque in Blaze
  • Cheeks- Illamasque blusher
  • Eyes- Maybelline gel eyeliner

... And everyone lived happily ever after- The End.

So what d'you make of my twisted do??... Is it a do or a don't??? lololol, i'm hilarious I know.
